I’ve just seen the exciting news that a magician is about to start his dream job as the new presenter on Blue Peter. Joel Mawhinney has already become a TikTok sensation with millions of followers. This is an indication of a resurgence in interest in magic among young people, which is fantastic news. As a result of Joel’s new role on Blue Peter, more children will become interested in magic. Watching it, as well as having a go. So if you want to buy a Christmas gift that lasts a lifetime this year, why not consider getting them magic lessons?
The beauty is that magic tuition is that it is suitable for anyone from the age of six upwards (big kids love learning magic tricks too!). And it’s not just for one-to-one learning – if you’ve got two or more children, or want to share the cost with other parents, I’m more than happy to teach small groups. Each lesson can last one or two hours depending on the person/people you’re buying them for. I’ll be teaching tricks that are easy to learn – I’ll bring all the materials, which students will keep. All they’ll need to do then is practise their moves.
I specialise in close up magic. Close up magic is also known as sleight-of-hand magic and includes tricks such as card tricks, mind reading, pickpocketing to name a few. To give you an idea of what close up magic is, click here to watch some videos of my favourite tricks.
My magic lessons will include a mixture of classic magic tricks and some fun modern tricks. The lessons themselves will be fun and informal. My aim is to pass on the joy of being a magician to the next generation. So who knows where your Christmas gift could lead them.
Magic is more than just a new hobby for your children. It can also help them improve their social skills because it encourages social interaction.
Psychologist Professor Richard Wiseman gave magic lessons to 50 children at two Hertfordshire schools and concluded: “Showing and teaching the children magic tricks encourages skills, such as self-discipline – unless you practise magic skills you will fail – and critical thinking. It also helps children to think from another person’s perspective, and consider how they are feeling.”
In other words, it will enhance their listening and learning skills, as well as developing their patience and resilience – you need to be extremely patient and dedicated in order to keep practising the tricks until you get them right!
If you are giving your children magic lessons for Christmas (or birthdays or any other celebration), why not hire me to do a magic show on the same day. As an experienced Christmas party magician, I can show the kids what’s possible (with a lot of hard work and dedication of course) at the same time as giving them an experience with a real Wow! factor. The joy of magicians at parties is that they appeal to everyone no matter how young or old your guests are. So if you’re getting together for a big family knees-up, I can entertain everyone. And who knows, if your gift to your children is a resounding success, they could be the ones entertaining at the family party next year!
